On Monday, June 22, 2020, at 8:08 p.m., deputies responded to Motel 6 in the 5800-block of Calle Real for a 911 call of suspects pointing a firearm at two victims in the parking lot. The victims fled in their vehicle through the Zodo’s parking lot while the suspects ran after the victims. When deputies arrived, they identified a vehicle and found a hotel room associated with the suspects.
While deputies were searching for the armed suspects, two women exited the hotel room with three young children. Deputies warned the women about the potential danger in the area and asked if they knew anything about it. The women said that they didn’t know anything about the incident, they were the only people in the hotel room, and they did not have a vehicle at the hotel. When the women provided identification, deputies found that one of them was the registered owner of the vehicle associated with the suspects and was also the person to whom the room was registered. The two women, 24-year-old Ana Sanchez of Santa Barbara and Yesenia Ybarra, were arrested for obstruction and their children were picked up by a family member. While Sanchez’s vehicle was being towed incident to her arrest, deputies discovered a loaded shotgun on the rear floorboard, between 2 child car seats.
Hotel management asked that Sanchez’s belongings be removed from the hotel room as she would not be returning due to her arrest. When deputies attempted to enter the room that they were told was empty, they found the slide lock engaged and saw 4 subjects inside. Deputies forced the door open and took the following 4 subjects into custody; 25-year-old Brandon Topete of Goleta, 24-year-old Gilberto Solis of Goleta, 18-year old Jorge Fernandez of Goleta, and 18-year-old Dylan Jaregui-Salinas of Goleta. A transportation van from the Santa Barbara Main Jail responded to the scene to transport the 6 arrestees for booking. Each of the suspects along with their charges and bail are listed below.
- Solis was charged with conspiracy (felony), assault with a firearm (felony), felon in possession of a firearm (felony), felon in possession of ammunition (felony) and possession of a firearm while on probation (felony) with no bail.
- Topete was charged with conspiracy (felony) and assault with a firearm (felony) with a bail of $50,0000.
- Fernandez was charged with conspiracy (felony) and assault with a firearm (felony) with a bail of $50,0000.
- Jaregui-Salinas was charged with 2 conspiracy (felony) and assault with a firearm (felony) with a bail of $50,0000.
- Ybarra was charged with child cruelty (felony), obstructing a peace officer (misdemeanor) and accessory (felony) with $0 bail per Emergency Rule 4.
- Sanchez was charged with child cruelty (felony), obstructing a peace officer (misdemeanor) and accessory (felony) with $0 bail per Emergency Rule 4.

Zero bail for the 2 with child cruelty charges is crazy. Hope the kids stay safe with family members and these thugs grow up or stay in jail for a long time
Riddle me this: does this read as if the deputies were NOT going to search the “empty room” until asked to bring out the belongings of the zero-bail perp they just arrested?
In response to ‘does the motel have the right to enter a paid up room’: Housekeeping does it every day, but how many were actually registered to the room may have a bearing. If it was only the women, then it was reasonable to assume it was empty.
Absurd. Staff enters with the implicit contractual agreement. The cops are not part of that. Why say things as off the wall as this imaginary legalese?
Call me ANTI-defund and villianize police, this was a good call. These young people are setting up for a life of crime and would teach those kids the same. Maybe “were” if this turns any of their lives around. Living in “Wild West” times was brutal, ugly, and extremely dangerous. Honest people suffered the most. I don’t want to have to acquire an arsenal to stand a chance of survival.

The “child cruelty” charge seems a bit specious.
There could have been OTHER KIDS in the room… that is ENOUGH of a reason to break into the room filled with meth heads.
Serious side question: Why did all these locals (and their kids) have one local Motel 6 room?
