At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, February 11, 2019, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Cannabis Compliance Team (CCT) served a search warrant in the 2000 block of Wild Oak Road in an unincorporated area near Lompoc. The search warrant was obtained after an investigation revealed the cannabis cultivation facility was operating with a temporary license that had been fraudulently obtained. Today, deputies eradicated more than 1,300 illegal cannabis plants and approximately 500 pounds of processed cannabis.

The 52-year-old Santa Barbara resident, who operates the facility, faces perjury and illegal cultivation of cannabis charges. The case will be forwarded to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The Santa Barbara County Cannabis Compliance Team was founded in June of 2018 and consists of personnel from many disciplines within a variety of county departments. The team primarily focuses on unlicensed and illegal cannabis operations within the county and the safety of the public.

If you suspect illegal cannabis cultivation activity, please contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office at 805-681-4100 and request to speak with a Cannabis Compliance Team detective. The growers who are following the permit guidelines and subsequent rules that the legit growers and County /State came up with are growing in the proper areas, not using harmful pesticides or poisons and chemical fertilizers... The selfish illegal growers are in it for the profits and nothing else. They DON"T CARE where or how they grow, it's all about the money...

Play fair & follow all the rules that the voters approved when legalizing this or face the consequences when you get caught. No excuses!

Voters also approved the right to ban these operations. Keep that option on the table. Nothing that legal pot promised is coming true - tax revenues are non-existent, no money to mitigate the obvious harms and the black market is only increasing and getting more vicious.

Yeah, but if any other business was operating without the proper paperwork, they'd only seize, not destroy, their merchandise and fine the owners. Why the double standard?

Carpinteria certainly has been negatively impacted by the weed industry. We have nothing against the plant or its use, but vacationers who do not like the smell are avoiding Carp en masse. Dope smell morning, noon, and night is quite unappealing to most people. Hopefully the dope growers will fix the issue sooner than soon.

Vacationers?! They must be staying in vacation rentals, not on the beach in RV's or hotels. Wonder why you're not complaining as a resident? I would. Maybe you're complaining on behalf of your weekend home?

This is in Cebada Canyon which has really been negatively impacted by several long time illegal cannabis operations. Talk about arrogant! A few of these growers think they are above the law. They know what they have brought into their community (traffic, odors, crime, lowered property values) but could care less. The County needs to step up and put these illegal operators out of business. And the County needs to listen to the homeowners who have been out there for years, following all the rules for permits, etc. and not give preference to these scofflaws. When you see hoophouses going up, you know your neighborhood is going to pot.

At first I thought these busts were silly but now I'm glad they are doing it. I voted for legalization but started to regret it after seeing the attitude of some of these potheads and growers. We've got some next door- they think b/c they are down with the bud the rest of us should be, too. Very self centered and not very aware of how they are impacting others - they even have a stinky compost pile in a neighborhood with houses close to each other. They just don't care - their lifestyle to them is the correct one and all others be damned -= yet they don't want anyone telling them how to live. Hypocritical. Anyways, good job Sheriffs and keep it up! If ppl want to grow, then they need to follow the rules and be responsible.
