Sheriff's Office Facilitates Purrfect Cat Reunion
Source: Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office
We are not sure if he was drawn to the black and white patrol car or whether he saw our recruitment advertisement, but whatever the case, we are glad for the time we got with Jake the Cruiser cat. He started coming by headquarters recently and everyone enjoyed seeing him and petting him.
Truth be told, many of us wanted to keep him but we figured this friendly feline probably belonged to a family that may be missing him. We were right. We took him to the Animal Shelter Assistance Program (ASAP) and sure enough, he had a microchip and belonged to a family who had recently moved to town and was devastated that he had wandered off. They were so happy to find out that Jake their 14-year-old cat was safe and sound. They picked him up from ASAP and dropped off cookies to Sheriff’s headquarters to say thank you.
This reunion story is a great reminder of the importance of microchipping your pet if you can and also of bringing stray cats to a shelter to make sure they are not lost. If you want to help the feline population in Santa Barbara County you can go to ASAP’s annual Kitten Shower and Yard Sale this Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm at the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter located at 5473 Overpass Road. Baby blankets, turkey or chicken baby food, baby wipes and toilet paper needed as donations. For more info check out the wishlist on their website at www.asapcats.org.
