The Sheriff’s Office reports the suspect has been safely taken into custody and units will be clearing shortly.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert for the Isla Vista Elementary area due to law enforcement action.
Sheriff’s Deputies are attempting to arrest a suspect near the elementary school and have instructed students to return inside the building and adults to lock outside doors.
The alert was issued around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. The school dismissals of students between Kindergarten and 6th grade take place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
At 3:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office stated that students who walk or bike from school are being released on side streets to avoid the incident area.
Isla Vista Elementary is located at 6875 El Colegio Road at the border of Goleta and Isla Vista, across from UC Santa Barbara’s Santa Catalina Residence Hall.
