Just after 9:00 p.m. on February 9, 2019, deputies assigned to the Goleta Valley responded to the area of Camino de Vida at Turnpike Road for a report of a stalking incident. The suspect was identified as being 50-year old Carlos Medina of Santa Barbara. Sheriff’s deputies determined Anderson was on active parole with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Deputies located Medina driving in the aforementioned area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Medina.

Medina fled from the deputies and sped through a nearby residential area. Medina was driving at high speeds and recklessly through the neighborhood. He eventually parked near the intersection of Calle Morella and Gwyne Avenue and fled on foot.

With the assistance of a watchful citizen, deputies were able to locate Medina hiding behind a parked vehicle. Deputies attempted to apprehend Medina, but he actively resisted the deputy’s efforts. A Sheriff’s K-9 team was deployed and was successful in apprehending Medina.

Medina was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. Medina was later booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for stalking, resisting peace officers, possession of methamphetamine and for recklessly evading of a peace officer. He is being held on $150,000 bail.

This case is a great example of how important our K-Unit is to our crime-fighting efforts. We are fortunate to currently have three German Shepherds assigned to Patrol Operations and a Labrador assigned to Custody Operations. Three of our canines are trained in narcotics detection and one is trained in explosives detection. There are many costs associated with having a successful K9 Unit from the purchase of the dogs, to the on-going specialty training, to the veterinary costs, food, equipment, etc… Our program is funded predominantly by donations and has been greatly supported by the Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse and its Project Deputy Dog Program.

If you want to help support our K9 Unit, go to the Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse website at www.sbsheriffsposse.org and click on the Project Deputy Dog tab. You can also follow our K9 Unit on Instagram @sbso_k9s.

I was subpoenaed for the manslaughter case and can't believe they didnt all get murder charges. They robbed him of his monthly check money that he was using to buy the alcohol they all were partying with. They beat him into a coma with punches, sticks and stomping his head on the traintracks, then along with the cash, they took his bike and silver chain. When they realized that he was knocked out, they drug him back to a campsite and placed him on a mattress. When they realized that he wasn't coming to when they woke up that next morning, they then carried him to the gate at entrance of grannies field where they layed him down and left to go party more so someone could stroll by and find him laying there lifeless and in a coma. Why any of these three individuals didn't get life is a mystery to me. In my eyes, it was a murder. Now as of others always needing to know the truth, yes he was stalking his ex and kids. This guy is no good sober, but add some alcohol and/or meth and this dude is serious trouble. Something's gonna pop off. I was homeless back there in grannies field during that time and knew everyone back there. I've drank a beer or two with many of them. I now a job, have a kid and a beautiful girlfriend and am off the streets. The streets are tough and I never chose to be homeless, a divorce made me homeless. So just so you know, not all homeless are bad and some people choose to live there and others get homeless for reasons that are uncontrolled and could happen to anyone. So every time just before you fall asleep at night, thank your higher power that it's in a safe and comfortable bed behind locked doors, cause it takes only missing one paycheck for alot of people to end up in a tent at grannies field.

Im not sure what this statement is trying to say, how would he get "released early" to go stalk someone? is that an option in parole hearings? throwing stones in a glass house we are, let alone sharing information that was not publicly displayed ( stalking his ex and kids..... no where does it say that ).

This guy was found guilty of manslaughter several years ago for the murder of a homeless man on the school district property in Goleta behind CVS off Turnpike. He and his two accomplices were sentenced to three years and probably ended up serving half that time. Now he's back to his old tricks. Our justice system is broken.

Must be the suspects first or last name. Maybe they forgot to put his whole name or didn’t mean to even put Anderson. I thought that was strange too.
