Does anyone know why a Sheriff's helicopter is circling Winchester Canyon? It's been circling a while now.
well, an hour ago....
I have no idea looked around nothing someone said maybe they are checking the creeks. I thought em go out earlier but it did not sound like a call maybe just patrolling..If I hear back from someone I will let you know..
People in the S.Y. Valley get totally fluffed when a chopper flies around. The Sheriffs Dept. helos are based at S.Y. International Airport and yet people come unglued. The online queries start flowing like beer at a frat party.
Well when a copter is circling over a semi-isolated community for 15 minutes or so, it does raise eyebrows.
Probably because we're a bit gun shy from a local bank robbery a few years ago. The robber was a local and hiding in our yards! We never received a warning or anything about it. Helicopters were circling and nobody knew to lock their doors. It wasn't even in the News that night.
Since then there have been random instances of people fleeing the police exiting here and hiding out in neighborhoods. One guy even hid in a woman's mobile home.
So, yeah, we get concerned when helicopters are circling.
Maybe they where making sure the local wild life was social distancing

Why are County Helo's based in Santa Ynez-be better if at City of SB Airport (better to serve Santa Barbara-not all gang banger north county stabbing and shootings)
Rabbit hunting .
I wonder what the cost is for flight time?
I saw something online a few days about an idiot riding a red motorcycle at extremely high speeds in the area, and they were out with the helicopter trying to find him.. could be he was out again yesterday...
i think all of our helicopters (fire and sheriff) are stationed at the santa ynez airport because its central in the county and no june gloom(fog normally from feb to november)
