A driver sustained serious injuries after a vehicle rollover on Highway 154 early Monday morning.

At 2:13 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded with CHP and a ground ambulance to a report of a vehicle accident on Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma. Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle had rolled off the side of the road and landed on its roof approximately 15 feet off the roadway closer to the Camp Whittier area.

There was on occupant inside the vehicle, the driver, who was pinned and required extensive extrication. The patient was labeled with a red tag, severe and life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is unknown with CHP investigating.

I was NOT a witness, nor had I any prior knowledge of this accident until reading this article. I just wanted to say that after listening to all of the comments, what pulls at my heart more than anything is the fact that the majority of comments are based upon (sorry for offensive language, but) the majority of comments are centered around what appears to be some sort of pissing contest. There was a tragic accident and that man was severely injured- does it matter who played what part /is it right to make it into a competition? Instead we should be coming together and recognizing our efforts as a team, and because of-1,2,3,4,5,6+++ who knows how many people had a part in this most unfortunate of events. Instead we should be looking at one another and being thankful for the role that they played, because you all pulled together to get this gentleman help, and that’s what is most important above anything. Because of (possibly) multiple peoples actions and help, this gentleman was able to get the help he did thanks to everyone involved. Praying for his recovery and thanks for everyone who took part in aiding him in getting help. Our officers and first responders and even the people who have to clear the wreckage and doctors and family of the injured...#OneLove #OneLife #Thankful #Community <3

Pissing contest? REALLY? Maybe you are the type of person that would allow someone to make a totally false claim and just ignore it, maybe you are also the type of person to see people asking for help in the rain and just drive by. Either way, it is crazy that you are making this about "a competition". Have I given my name? Did you see my family on the news? Have you thought about how a person might feel after going through that? I am not a first responder. I have never seen anything like this before. This is going to take a long time for me to process in a healthy way. Having some "person" on Edhat casually claim to be a part of what happened, and make a criticism in the same post, is just way too much. I dont need your credit, your thanks, or your judgemental criticism.

how many accidents have to happen on the 154 before someone takes preventative measures? We won't drive it any more - as accident-prone as the 101 is it's nothing compared to that death road. Someone is right here - a heavy dose of ticketing might help - when the CHP shows up after a rollover it's already too late

Maybe the Dan person who said he was first on the scene meant - he saw the guy rollover and off the road? Completely and entirely possible. NO need to get so worked up claiming to be the first to help the person after he rolled over/off the road - people use words differently. Sounds like DAN witnessed the guy going off the road, even if he wasn't the first to try to help (may not have been safe to pull over on that road).

I don't think it's about taking any credit. It seems the person who was there first while camping is upset that someone else said they were there, when, according the campers' account, there was no one there on the scene with them as they tried to help the injured person in the car.

there was no "come upon it". The truck was 15' down an embankment, it was very dark and raining. The battery had fallen out of the truck so there were no lights or anything that gave a sign of an accident. He could not been seen from the 154. "May have been driving and didn't stop", you could be right and that makes him worse than a liar. I do not need to take credit, what I need is for internet warriors to get back to basic humanity. Who's to say? I am to say, and notice Dan the mystery man has NOTHING to say.

Who claimed something false? I see someone having to take cred for being "first on the scene" however, the other person who said they were first to come upon it may have been driving and didn't stop so whose to say?

No? When you have a terrifying experience like this and then open up the Internet to see someone claiming something that is so completely false, you might understand the importance of honesty. You might also understand how many people passed by without stopping to help as well.

Excuse me, but my husband and I were first on the scene. We heard the crash from our campsite and scoured the bushes in the rain to find the vehicle. I called 911, and stayed to help the first responders. There was BO one else there helping Dan. Not a single person stopped to help during the 15 minutes we waited for help. We had 2 large lights on the 154 asking for people to help. He was crushed under his vehicle and within an inch of having his skull crushed. Please do not make stuff up.

Never drive faster than safe conditions allow, regardless of posted limits. If it is dark, twisting, foggy and/or wildlife can dart out suddenly, slow down, slow way down. It is only a few miles distance to cover.

COMPLETE FALSEHOOD. MY FAMILY AND I WERE THERE AND YOU CERTAINLY WERE NOT UNLESS YOU WERE THE CHP WHO SHOWED UP AFTER WE LOCATED THE VEHICLE AND CALLED FOR HELP.

You are so right DTM. People over do it on 154 and it is very dangerous. Your buddy A- gets pretty worked up at everything, and makes so many comments that he is practically only talking to himself. He really does need to cool off.

I am getting so tired of the number of rollovers on our highways. I will bet that IF they analyze their cell phones at the wreck site, they will discover that the drive was probably jerking around with their cell phone at the majority of these accidents. Distracted driving is such a huge risk to all of us. I constantly see it on the freeways and city streets as these people are drifting all over the place. Enforcement with large fines is the key to saving lives. Unfortunately, many times these turn into head on collisions with some one fatally injured.

YETI - It's the 154.... there's tons of wildlife to avoid hitting, there's sudden curves to overcorrect on, also it was 2am and the driver may have dosed off and run off the road... there are MANY reasons other than cellphones for a rollover here at this time of night. Try having some compassion instead of anger over your assumptions. Seriously.... YOU are tired of rollovers? How about the people involved? Get over yourself.
