Public Parking Lot Purchase Approved

A goal of the City has been to expand parking opportunities near Hollister in Old Town by increasing the amount of off-street parking available in the neighborhood. In July of 2016, the City entered into a shared agreement with Community West Bank to lease 18 parking spaces in their lot in Old Town for the public to use. Earlier this year, the City began discussions with a second property owner regarding a lot on the western side of Orange Avenue north of Hollister Avenue which was currently being used as a private parking lot. At the September 19 City Council meeting, the City agreed to purchase this 6,500 square foot lot which will provide an additional 17-19 public parking spaces in Old Town. The staff report from the September 19 meeting can be viewed here.

Magnolia Avenue Sidewalk Under Construction

At the August 15 City Council meeting, the construction contract was approved for the Magnolia Sidewalk Infill Project. Construction will begin in early September to fix and replace deteriorated or missing sidewalk on the east and west sides of Magnolia Avenue from Hollister Avenue south to Gaviota Street. The project will take about six weeks to complete and make improvements to walking paths, sight distance at the intersections for drivers, drainage along Magnolia Avenue, and driveway access. For more information please visit the project page here.

September Old Town Goleta Update

722 - That would be awesome! My understanding, though, is that the City is looking to eliminate all the on street parking on the south side of the road. I can't fathom being a small business in the middle of the block and lose that.

September Old Town Goleta Update

I think they should make the parking along Hollister/old town like ventura where there are actual parking spaces and make Hollister a two lane road. It was like that before and I’m not sure why they changed it. If it works elsewhere it can work here. It might make people slow down a little to since the speed limit IS 25 and you see a-holes flying through at about 50.
