Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue (SBCSAR) had a full weekend with three incidents and one community event.
We kicked things off at the grand opening of the Trek Trails at Rancho Alegre, where over 200 riders came out to enjoy 5+ miles of new, bike-optimized trails. Our bike team was thrilled to ride alongside the community, share their love for the outdoors, and highlight how their skills support our mission.

On Saturday at 1:51 PM, teams responded to reports of someone yelling for help near Mission Falls. After a four-hour ground and air search with Santa Barbara County Air Support and interviews with hikers who had been yodeling in the area, it was determined no one was in danger. We’re grateful the reporting party called 911—it’s always best to err on the side of caution.
Sunday brought two more calls: At 12:22 PM, SBCSAR responded with Montecito Firefighters and SBC Air Support to assist an ill hiker on the Hot Springs Trail, who was safely escorted down and transferred to AMR.
Later at 6:44 PM, we were dispatched to East Camino Cielo for a motorcycle crash, but the rider had already left the scene and no help was needed.
In total, our team served collectively over 90 volunteer hours this weekend. SBCSAR is a professional, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization serving under the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. To learn how to support our mission, visit our website or contact us directly.
