Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education named Kip Glazer, Ed.D as the next Principal of San Marcos High School. Glazer emerged as the top candidate following a competitive, nationwide search and collaborative performance-based interview comprised of 35 individuals including teachers, staff, district officials, parents and community partners.

Glazer, a native Korean speaker, has a Doctor of Education in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University in Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.

An assistant principal at La Cañada High School, Glazer is a professional administrator with experience in all aspects of high school governance. She has served in administrative positions as Dean of Students in charge of student safety and discipline to Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. A leader in educational technology, Glazer consulted on Role-Playing Game Development for K-12 Arts Education with the Kennedy Center ArtsEdge Program.

“The hiring of the principal for San Marcos High School has been one of the highest priorities for Santa Barbara Unified School District,” said Cary Matsuoka, Superintendent of Santa Barbara Unified School District. “Because of that, we are excited to welcome an innovative and dynamic educational leader in Kip Glazer. Her integrity, honesty, and expertise will enrich the vision and culture of the San Marcos school community.”

Glazer moved to the United States from South Korea, coming to Santa Barbara in 1993 to learn to speak English with the EF International School. Her life story in the United States comes full circle as she returns to the Santa Barbara community.  More specifically, she returns to San Marcos High School where she saw her first football game with her host family, whose son played trumpet in the Royal’s Marching Band. Glazer met her husband in Santa Barbara and together they raised two sons, one currently attends and the other graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point.

“I feel a sense of deep gratitude for the incredible opportunity to serve San Marcos High School and Santa Barbara Unified School District,” said Kip Glazer, Ed.D. “When I first arrived in Santa Barbara 25 years ago from South Korea, I did not even speak English. I had no idea that I would have the opportunity to be the Principal at San Marcos High School. I remember feeling such tremendous pride in watching the Royal Marching Band perform. It was incredible to see the crowd in the stands, coming together as a family. Now, I will once again be a part of that family of amazing staff, students, and parents. I look forward to meeting each and every member of the school community. Go Royals!”

Dr. Glazer will begin her new role on July 1, 2019.
