Scanner Reports 8-9-17

Happy Hump Day. I have been hearing a few check the welfare calls of children here and there. The other night I heard a check the welfare of an unattended 3 year old in a trunk. I’m not really sure if the calls are true because you don’t hear a lot after the police respond. A surefire way of confirming the call is when the police ask CWS or Child Welfare Services to respond.  But if I don’t hear that I figure either the call is not true or there is something more to the call. That one I heard Monday was in a driveway of a residence in the downtown area of Santa Barbara. Tuesday morning I heard that a 14 year old girl might have been abandoned by her family. I am reminded of the depression years of when children could not be taken care of by their families who did not have enough money as there was no work. Many children were abandoned back then. I don’t think I could ever do that to a kid; just have to find a way to make it. The depression was different. Nowadays some folks are not willing to work cheap. If there was a kid involved, a dollar an hour is better than no dollar an hour. Back in the late 70’s, I worked in 2 auto body shops; one for 2 bucks an hour under the table, the other for 2.50. Times were different back then. It was cheaper to live but both those wages were under the national wage and there were no benefits. I’m grateful back then a 6-pack of beer was under 2 bucks. The good old days. 

I don’t like hearing these calls about kids. I was a kid once and I lived on the streets and had it rough. I see programs for kids advertised like  kids on the streets, gang kids, runaway kids, pregnant under-aged girls is a new thing. This shit had been going on since the beginning of time. It’s like the homeless problem, it’s never going to go away. There is no cure, only people that will swear there are solutions so they can make a career out of it and separate others from their money. Unfortunately those who really need the help don’t get it, so it’s the same old same old crap.

• Burglary in the 1200 block of Coast Village Road.
• Injury traffic accident, vehicle vs motorcycle, San Pasqual at Carrillo.
• Vehicle into a parked vehicle, 100 block of West Mission, possible DUI.
• Overdose, 400 block of East Cota.
• Fight, father-son, 600 block of Vala Way in Lompoc.
• Suspicious circumstances, female associated with a blue and green van overheard saying she ripped off a bicycle. I think we should start hanging bicycle thieves like they used to do horse thieves on Bonzana.
• Some loud mouth with long grey hair like myself yelling in the 1200 block of State Street. It’s not me cause I’m not there.
• Panic attack after a vehicle accident, 1300 South Broadway.
• Man hitting himself in the El Paseo Restaurant, 800 block of State Street.
• Two vehicle crash, minor injuries, 101 southbound just before Hot Springs.
• Women fighting, one has a skateboard, on Nectarine in Goleta. Later on medics responded, so I guess there were injuries.
• Fight inside of a black Mercedes in the McDonalds parking lot, 29 North Milpas. Some of the occupants ended up at the bus stop. The driver was last seen south on Milpas. Probably a “John”; a lot of that crap goes on down here.
• Medical emergency at the Double Tree.
• Older male, younger male, shooting an air rifle at Franchenschi Park.
• 600 block of DLV, 3 year old left unattended in the trunk or back of an SUV. Dispatcher said trunk. SUV was also mentioned, maybe it was both.
• Medical call or disturbance in the 700 block of East Haley.
• Report of 50 juveniles drinking alcohol around a Bonfire in the More Mesa area near Mockingbird Lane and another street whose name escaped me.
• Disturbance between patient and staff at Samarkand over medication, 2500 block of Treasure Drive.
• Medical, unresponsive female on Broadmar Plaza.
• Seven juveniles playing handball and smoking marijuana at Bohnett Park.
• Hear about those jerks who were smoking weed on a train? This guy asked them not to smoke weed on the train and they jumped the guy, beating the tar out of him. That is not all, but when one of the scumbags got caught, he said that he thought that was all they could do. I smoke weed but I would NEVER smoke it on a train or in a public area unless I was homeless and no one was around. If someone asked me to put it out, I would. Anyway, that story teed me off. I think the attackers should do prison time. Not everyone likes weed and they should not be forced to inhale the secondhand smoke.

Scanner Reports, Tuesday:

• Vehicle vs pedestrian on Fairview near Rite Aid. Pedestrian refused medical treatment.
• Burglary, 1000 block of Casitas Pass.
• Disturbance between a skateboarder with orange hair, a dog, an elderly male on a bicycle, and another male on a bicycle who possibly had an unknown weapon in his hand. I think orange hair and the elderly male got stopped. The other guy got away for now. Happened at Garden and Cota Streets.
• Drinkers, 914 Carpinteria Street.
• Non injury traffic accident at Santa Cruz Market. One party is refusing to trade insurance info.
• Assault, possibly involving road rage, 1300 block of Shoreline.
• Medical call, 100 block of M Street, DT’s, withdrawals from alcohol.
• Assault at Castillo and Canon Perdido, victim stomach punched.
• Burglary, Presto Pasta on DLV.
• 14 year old child possibly abandoned by her family in the 100 block of Los Aquarius.
• Strange odor coming from an RV on Camino Del Remedio.
• Check the welfare of a National Guardsman who did not show up for his weekend training, 2500 block of Tanglewood.
• Burglary to a garage on Grey Ave.
• Check the welfare of a subject down in an alley in the 3500 block of State Street.
• Credit card fraud suspect caught at the Home Improvement Center, 415 East Gutierrez.
• Suicidal male at MTD, 1020 Chapala.
• Drunk on 5th Street.
• Medical emergency, seizures, 4500 block of Hollister.
• Overdose, 1400 block of Almond.
• Subject disturbing in the 300 block of West Carrillo.
• Open container, subject in a green pickup truck in the 4200 block of Calle Real seen drinking in the truck.
