Scanner Reports 6-21-19

By Roger the Scanner Guy

The argument between the Major and City Councilman the other day as described on Noozhawk really bothers me because I feel that behind the scenes of beautiful Santa Barbara the city is drowning in band-aides. Councilman Dominguez is right, he wants to do things the right way; building a strong foundation is the right way to go, not put band-aids on the problems until the next Major and City Council people come along. Considering the homeless issue: five million dollars a year for enforcement and clean up, and one million to fix the problem?  So, that is one million dollars a year to cure homelessness in Santa Barbara which really should have been cured in the first plan in 2010 or 2011. In 1999 or so there was 12 Year plan to cure homelessness, I guess we’re on the 2nd plan now. Pretty soon it will be the 100 Year plan to cure homelessness which basically is a business, it’s ignorant to deny that it’s not, it’s an industry. 5 million for enforcement and clean up and one million per year to cure homelessness is only to continue to maintain the business. It covers salaries. No wonder there are so many homeless camps that never get cleaned up, piles and piles of garbage in the bushes hidden from public view, on-off ramps, on ramps and behind businesses, so the Democratic Party once again will refuse to endorse Councilman Jason Dominguez. That is too bad. Regardless of their endorsement, I will again be voting for Councilman Dominguez; though I may not always agree with his actions and decisions, he is willing to make things right and work for the people. 1. Roger, did I forget to come over and scrub the barf off of your porch like I promised? Sorry…been busy and must have forgotten. About Eastside politics: Having Dominguez on the council is like having a Republican majority in Congress while Hillary was trying to craft an equitable national health care plan. The “Just say No’ attitude prevalent delayed what is now the model for health care for years. That is what Jason is doing for our council. Kathy’s job is difficult enough without having someone with female authority issues driving attempts at progress off the tracks for seemingly malicious reasons. We could use Jason’s skill set and dogged determination on the water of sewer boards, to help protect usable and natural resources.

  2. Typical Demon Rat barfs on your porch and doesn’t clean up after themselves…. That is what I’m talking about here Jason is refreshing in that he wants to clean up what is going on here with the homeless not add on to it and maintain it.. Seems like certain people only want certain people on the council and running the city..Funny how we teach our children about getting along with everyone while we all fight and never get anything done. Ha!

  3. Roger, do you realize job and benefit perpetuation is the primary task of government? So yes, the powerful city employee unions do a good job convincing voters that only “certain people” run the city – and bargaining with themselves on both sides of the table when it comes to spending our tax dollars. Otherwise known as the typical slate of Democrat revolving door endorsements. Thanks for you good words about Jason Dominguez. He is a keeper. But other districts need to elect independently minded people too, who also support resident-oriented constituent service. Days of elected officials being loyal only to the city employee bargaining groups are over. Seven voices total on city council- we need at least a mobile 3/4 philosophical split to ensure critical issuses are fully explored and a range of insights are represented. The current city employee union echo chamber majority is the worst possible make-up of our city council. Follow the money this coming election; follow the endorsements. Who raises the “most money” is most likely the candidate most in debt to the city employee unions.

  4. “The Homeless Problem” is a way to loot $5 or $6 million from our cities coffers. Never truly address or fix the problem, because that would jeopardize next years $6 million loot.
Roger, sorry for barfing on your porch, I will never mix Yagermeister & Red Bull Again.
