Scanner Reports 5-6-19

By Roger the Scanner Guy

That bicyclist running from the police reminds me of a joke played on me once by my buddy Bill back in Fort Wayne at the Boys Home. He had been helping a police Sgt. move and took off with his yellow Schwinn Varsity. I had no idea, he told me he bought the bike for 25 Bucks this was back in the 70’s. I was 15 years old and back then in a hell of a lot better shape than now plus I could ride a bicycle for miles as my Dad had worked for Sears and when the folks went shopping at Sears I got on the stationary bikes. I used to love to see how fast, and far I could go peddling on the stationary bike. I got myself in good shape I was able to escape situations with ease. I asked my so-called buddy if I could borrow the bicycle and go for a ride. I always wanted a Schwinn bicycle it was his intention all along for me to take the bike for a spin.

I took off, the bicycle was really fast, I rode up Wells street toward town, took a left on Main street and headed for the landing, it was a block street with old historical buildings Fort Wayne’s tourist trap. On the other side of the Landing was the City, County building, aka the Police station. I went the wrong way through the parking garage I should not have done that coming out the other side I had about 6 cops beating feet behind me, they were yelling for me to stop. I was wondering why there were so many cops chasing me suddenly I heard sirens. I wasn’t going to wait around to find out why all these cops wanted a piece of me. I went the wrong way on one way streets, through alleys, parks, down stairs, it was like the original “Gone in 60 seconds” on a bicycle it went on for about 45 minutes and yes I got away. When I got back to the boys home all the guys were laughing at me but it was short lived as the police showed up and took Bill away with the yellow Schwinn. I never borrowed anyone’s bicycle again after that. The guy who got away from the PD on SaTURDay ditched the bicycle and walked away. Here are your Scanner Reports
