Christmas Eve Evening 2019 Will be 50 Years since a miracle occurred in our Family back Home as we were all celebrating our Christmas Holiday, on the Eve in the Evening after Dinner we always Opened our gifts. There was one gift under the tree that remained unopened it had come back from Vietnam that way the packaging ripped with blood on it..My Older Sisters Husband John had been missing several days though I did not know it till the package came back.. I was 11 Years Old and to me John wasn’t my Brother in Law, he was my Brother. I had no one to watch over me  I pretended John was my Brother he was everything I wanted to be when I grew up…Handsome, Kind Hearted, Strong he drove a 1967 Black Mustang it was a beauty and very fast he also played guitar. He was from Tupelo, Mississippi his Father played back up for Elvis Presley in the day..Soon after they met John married my Sister not too long after that he was drafted in to the Army and sent to Vietnam everyday the war raged on and every Evening we listened to  Walter Cronkite’s report on the war and watched  it on TV Missing our family member my big brother John. Letters came in the mail and were sent back as well as packages of goodies for John and his fellow brothers in combat then one day just before Christmas this package came back unopened with blood on it. I remember my Mother and Sister looking at the package then placing it under the tree…Christmas Eve we had opened all our gifts yet the one from Vietnam remained unopened under the tree. All of us were there together My Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Family Friends, my Sisters, my Mother, my Father was still alive then. One of my Uncles, Denny visiting from California suggested that we should pray for John so we all stood up in a circle and held hands. My Uncle prayed aloud as the rest of us  prayed silently it was one of the only times I ever felt close to my Father holding his hand in mine I thought for sure I would never see my Big Brother John again. The prayer over we Unlocked our hands and stood there still. The phone rang John had been found alive he was in a hospital somewhere in Nam. He was the Point Man he stepped on a mine he had leg injuries but would pull through. It wasn’t so long after that he came home and  our family was together again…. I hope all of you and your Families have a Blessed Christmas, That the Homeless get fed and are able to stay warm. That our Responders, Fire Fighters, Police Officers, and Medic’s stay safe….God Bless you all   Love,  Roger and Edhat.
