Scanner Reports 11-4-19

By Roger the Scanner Guy

I did not know the time had changed early on Sunday morning even when I woke up at 6 am and looked at my watch it did not connect. I usually hear more cars going by at 6 am but I heard hardly any though it was SUNday .I thought it was 4 am, anyway still being dark and all it seems the cooler it is outside the better I sleep.

Well Halloween is gone, all the Fall Thanksgiving crap is half price and all the Christmas stuff is out already. I’ve been getting into the spirit of things listening to Christmas songs all weekend. Christmas time is when all the thieves go to work ripping people off so they afford to buy Christmas presents for their families. There is more crime during the Holidays than any other time of the year, They Say. I think there is more crime with opportunity. If someone leaves the car doors open, keys in the car, with a bunch of packages in the back seat in June, a thief that discovers it walking by isn’t going to say “It’s only June I have to wait a few more months Maybe if I come back in November it will still be here I can steal it then.”    Hell no they are going to take it right then and there. It’s easier to rip off stores during the Holiday Season because there is much more merchandise, and a lot more people shopping, or shoplifting in the stores. Stores have to hire more employees and security.

I have done store security before and caught employees in the act of stealing, in fact the employees I caught took much more merchandise that the regular old Shoplifters did they had been doing it a long time and both were let go with no charges filed. Both here in town, J.C. Penny, and Robinson’s. It really angered me that I caught these people and they let them go because both were Good Employees. I think if it would have happened at Sears it would have been much different. Sears was kind of strict when it came to that sort of thing. I worked at all 3 stores though not very long as I was the Serial worker. I worked at the Akron too remember that store? Whole Foods is there now. Anyway, this is the time of year where I’m supposed to tell you all to be careful lock everything up..Your home, your vehicles, the garage. Will all that has changed Secure everything all the time. Anything and Everything could get ripped off at any time…..HERE are YOUR SCANNER REPORTS.

  1. The need to get the story out over rules my emotions when I’m reporting tragic things in most cases I cry after I report it. Some of it is so unreal I think it cannot be true like the UCSB Shootings for acouple moments I thought it was a training exercise. The post office shootings was before my time but I did hear them and an hour before two of the victims were killed they were in Texaco with me and a friend talking.. My friend knew one of the supervisors. The UCSB Shootings were probably the worse but anytime I hear or see others in pain it gets to me. The vegetation Fire calls when Firefighters are hurt or killed gets me, when animals get killed tears me apart.

  2. Roger, thank you for all that you do. It cannot be easy. My heart is so often disturbed by what happens in SB, but I cannot imagine the toll it takes as you have to listen to these things on the scanner and hear the chaos and emotions of the first responders. God bless you.

  3. Roger, I’m wondering what you do (emotionally or psychologically) with all the crises that come our way in Santa Barbara. The mom and 2 children on #154 killed by unstable driver, reminded me of the mom and 2 children (survived thanks to military SeaBees) on the 101 when car was rear-ended by truck (driver on meth?). The shooting at the Post Office in Goleta. UCSB/Isla Vista murders, riots, deaths over cliffs, rapes. Gangs fighting and killing each other. Senior Citizens wandering away and being found deceased. The debris flow and people who didn’t survive; several never found. Heat waves, Sundowner winds. Practicing evacuation plans and routes. Bad weather closing down #101 north and south and #154…and the La Conchita mudslide and deaths. The diving boat fire tragedy. Numerous fires (most recent big one being Thomas), numerous evacuations, air quality threats, power shut off threats by Edison, State Street becoming a fearful place, encampments starting numerous fires. Is PTSD embedded into Santa Barbara at this point? I would venture a guess that no other community has had more varied tragedies. Roger, what sticks with you the most, and how do you get rid of those thoughts?
