Scanner Reports 10-2-19
By Roger the Scanner Guy
I was reading more about the proposed 15 South Alisos homeless residences and thinking the only Homeless shelter I know of on the West Side is the Salvation Army, only a block into the West Side on the 400 Block of Chapala. Maybe the next couple of shelters ought to go on the West Side. Then maybe a couple on the Mesa, Upper State Street, Rivera, Hope Ranch. Share and share alike it's only right. Of course, the shelters might be here but the campers are everywhere else.
I saw the replay of the interview with John Palminteri on KEYT about the Homeless Camp Fire and I saw how big that campsite was. That 50K grant for homeless camp clean up is going to get sucked up quickly cleaning that place and maybe a couple more, then how is this going to be prevented from happening again 6 months down the road? Because it is not the first time for that area, there have been fires in that general area before and maybe in that same spot. I spoke to Peter, one of the men John interviewed, before about the fires there and the fires have come very close to structures, are we going to wait until there is a tragedy? That is usually what it takes to get things done. If there are camps all over the place, might as well build one huge camp but then again maybe not. That was quick but if we were to build a huge campsite it should go on the West Side. It's their turn.
I was thinking the other day, I do that sometimes, about how when I took people in I fed them and myself. I'd make a huge pot of white rice, it was the nastiest cheapo rice, then I'd go to Taco Bell buy a bean burrito for .50 cents take about 30 or 40 sauce packets and empty them in the rice, no one ever ate it I was the only one. They smoked all my cigarettes and drank all my coffee though. What kind of foods have you cooked while broke? Probably something better than nasty cheapo white rice.
The cooler weather is coming on, it's time to cook some good hot chili that sticks to the bones. I'd have to make mine with lentil because for some reason me and beans do not get along. I was supposed to go to the doctor yesterday but I cannot seem to walk too far anymore without extreme pain plus I twisted my knee. I never made it and feel like carp having to call them 5 minutes before the appointment to cancel, getting older truly SUCKS. Oh well Here is your Scanner Reports.

Oct 03, 2019 08:51 AMBrilliant Roger! San Rogue, LaCumbre, Riviera, Mesa, Garden District all need to take their fair share of homeless. Eastside has been dumping ground for City’s 1400 homeless. It’s time. Build a huge mega- campground on the County land where people come and go 24/7, near every free needed service : Med, Vet, Social, Fire, Legal, MTD, and voting place. HUMANS NEED TOILETS, showers, mailbox, and mini-mart. Is there land to grow food?

Oct 03, 2019 10:18 AMThe Westside has several "shelter" type facilities already. It seems they are probably half-way houses for recently released inmates. These places were set up without the whining of locals and seem to function just fine. Maybe the Eastside complainers should check facts before continually assuming they are victims.

Oct 03, 2019 12:51 PMI know what the West Side has the East Side has those places too but the West Side does not have PATH, Transition House, or the Rescue Mission the West Side needs to Step Up with acouple box store style Shelters and quit whining them elves...

Oct 03, 2019 12:59 PMPATH and Transition House used former industrial/commercial buildings in areas zoned for this use. (Mom's Italian Village and a former furniture store warehouse) Where does that same zoning or large commercial/industrial building space exist on the Westside, which is primarily multi-family residential.

Oct 03, 2019 12:24 PMConsidering the money being thrown at this problem, how'bout purchase a big Montecito property and build barracks-style accommodation (segregated by gender & whether sober or not) w/lockers, a mess hall, with bus tranportation to State Street and the other areas vagrants "work" daily? Bathrooms would need to be communal & only accessable from the separate accommodation areas to handle rape and assault, and be made with cement-floors & walls like the restrooms at the beach so they'd be easy to hose down daily and keep sanitary.

Oct 03, 2019 01:15 PMHere's what the Westside (west of State, east of the freeway not the West Westside) has:
The Salvation Army - 70 homeless beds.
The Mental Wellness Center's house for 4-5 seriously mentally ill adults.
New House and Light House - group homes for court-mandated sobriety.
The Bradley Studios - housing for low-income / homeless.
El Carrillo - housing for mentally disabled and homeless.
The CADA detox facility.
Stop picking on the Westside, unless you want to put it next to Mayor Murillo's house, which is a fine idea.
The Mesa, La Cumbre, Upper East, Samarkand - they need to accept some of this housing and shelter too if they want these problems fixed.

Oct 03, 2019 05:20 PMThat's a grand idea you got there a shelter next to the mayors house.

Oct 03, 2019 02:43 PMyeah, mebbe the Westside could do more, but why aren't we hearing Roger moan about not much assistance in the UPPER EASTSIDE, SAN ROQUE, SAMARKAND and so on??

Oct 04, 2019 12:51 PMBecause the West Side is closer and a direct opposite of the East Side, plus I hear some of the politicians shoving everything over into the East Side live on the West Side...Everyone should be fair especially in an erection year.

Oct 04, 2019 01:45 PMI got threatened over this the other day by a real old Homeless activist kept saying how nice it is I have housing and how lucky I am
this town is so corrupt even the so called liberals will stab you in the back while watching you bleed to death on the sidewalk. I think it's nice their family has housing too while owning a mountain top cottage...
