Major Progress Toward $25 Million Campaign Goal and the Naming of The McHurley Film Center
We are proud to announce we have surpassed the halfway mark in our $25 million capital campaign to establish our new home, The McHurley Film Center — a state-of-the-art venue in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. The theatre, located at 916 State Street, is currently undergoing renovation and is scheduled to reopen in February.
With more than 70 lead donors already contributing, SBIFF’s campaign is a community-wide effort to secure the Festival’s future and expand its impact. The organization is actively inviting supporters throughout Santa Barbara and beyond to help bring The McHurley Film Center to life. Gift recognition opportunities of all levels are available, and tours can be arranged for interested donors.
The highly anticipated Film Center will be named in honor of a transformational leadership gift from longtime community philanthropists Nora McNeely Hurley and Michael Hurley, affectionately known by friends as “The McHurleys.” Their generosity brings SBIFF one step closer to realizing a decades-long vision of a world-class film hub that will celebrate cinema, foster connection, and help revitalize State Street.

“We believe in the people and good works of SBIFF and recognize and applaud its impactful presence in our community,” said Nora McNeely Hurley. “SBIFF’s programming is inspirational, educational, and entertaining for all — through its festivals, at the Riviera Theatre, its education programs, and very soon at the spectacular new Film Center.”
The McHurley Film Center will feature five state-of-the-art auditoriums, a film-themed art gallery, and expanded year-round art-house and educational programming. Renovations include advanced sound and projection systems, accessibility upgrades, and modern amenities that create an immersive, inclusive, and world-class experience for all.
