Summer nights at the Santa Barbara Zoo are getting the big-screen treatment. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) and the Santa Barbara Zoo are teaming up to present Zoovies, a three-part outdoor family film series on the Zoo’s Hilltop, supported by the Nora McNeely Hurley Foundation.

The lineup features animated favorites, each starting at 5:30 p.m. on select Wednesdays:

  • The Lion King — June 17
  • Finding Nemo — July 8
  • Zootopia — August 12

Before each screening, Santa Barbara Zoo keepers will offer brief talks about the Zoo’s animals and the importance of conservation.

“We’re delighted to partner with the SB Zoo to bring outdoor movies this summer—fulfilling common goals of both of our organizations, to educate and delight our audiences,” said Roger Durling, SBIFF’s executive director. “It’s an honor to partner with SBIFF in hosting family movie experiences at the Santa Barbara Zoo. We’re excited to offer this summer outdoor screening experience to our community,” added Charles Hopper, president and CEO of the Santa Barbara Zoo.

To expand access, SBIFF will distribute 300 free Zoovies passes for each screening through Santa Barbara–based Family Resource Centers serving underserved children and families. The passes include complimentary Zoo admission on the event date. Participants in the following organizations are encouraged to contact their centers directly for availability:

  • Family Resource Center – Santa Barbara
  • Food Bank
  • Girls Inc.
  • LEAP
  • SYV People Helping People
  • United Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara
