SBA Celebrates Inaugural Contour Airlines Service

Contour Airlines inaugural service from Oakland International Airport is scheduled to land at Santa Barbara Airport at 11:10 am, Tuesday, October 16.  Contour CEO Matt Chaifetz will arrive with the first flight of passengers from the Bay Area’s second largest and fastest growing airport.  Representatives from the City will be on hand to greet and welcome these passengers to Santa Barbara.  On Thursday, Contour will launch their second route from SBA with its inaugural departing flight to Las Vegas, Nevada.  The carrier will serve Santa Barbara with daily service to Oakland and five times weekly service to Las Vegas.

The response to Contour’s introductory fare was remarkable by industry standards as thousands of seats were sold within the first two weeks of sale.  “The strength of the response just shows how pent up demand really is in the Santa Barbara region for service to these cities,” said Aaron Keller, Interim Airport Director at SBA. “We’re thrilled that Contour has taken advantage of the opportunity to serve our market.”

Fueled by the success of its low fares and premium product, Contour is one of the fastest growing airlines in the country.  The carrier’s Embraer regional jets feature 30 leather seats with expanded legroom and all customers enjoy a free checked bag as well as complimentary snack and beverage service. The airline has taken up residence in Santa Barbara Airport’s ticketing lobby, just north of Alaska Airlines’ ticket counter.  Passengers will board the aircraft via the jet bridge at Gate 2 after passing through the Airport’s quick and efficient security screening area.  According to Chaifetz, “For Santa Barbara residents, traveling from your hometown airport is now an opportunity to save both time and money.  Contour can have you at your destination in less time than it takes to drive to LAX or Burbank.”
