Scene from “The Blue Eagle” at Cueva Valdez on Santa Cruz Island

Dozens of silent movies were filmed on Santa Cruz Island. One was being filmed in April 1926. “The islands are to be used by the motion picture directors as the setting for one of the new films … Tomorrow morning, Captain Ira Eaton is taking one of the location men for the Culver City film companies to the islands.

They will remain there for several days seeking locations for the film.” – Santa Barbara Morning Press, April 26, 1926. (“The Blue Eagle” was released in September 1926.)
