On June 28, 2022, the City Public Works Department will give a presentation to City Council about State Street Interim Operations, following the February 2022 adoption of the Economic Recovery Extension and Transition Ordinance (ERETO).

At the meeting, Council is expected to provide direction on the return of parades to State Street during Interim Operations. Discussions about parade format and occurrence will take place at this time. Council will also provide direction on the portability of outdoor facilities along the 400 to 1300 blocks of State Street. “Portability” of these outdoor dining spaces means that these structures could be removed in a short period of time, without the use of mechanized equipment.

The Public Works Department is also seeking Council direction on timing for future Council decisions on charging a usage fee (“rent), frontage limitations of the on-street facilities, and design standards.

The ERETO remains in effect until December 2023. A two-year master planning effort is currently underway to shape the long-term vision for the future of State Street Promenade beyond the interim operational period.

The Santa Barbara City Council will meet Tuesday, June 28, at 2 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 735 Anacapa Street. The meeting is available in person and virtually.
