Saturday is Montecito Trails Recovery Day

This Saturday, June 30, is Montecito Trails Recovery Day. In recognition of National Trails Day, this year’s event will focus on restoring areas of our trails network damaged this winter by the Thomas Fire and the later debris flow. Please join us and work alongside local agencies, organizations and volunteers as we work to improve portions of McMenemy, Old Pueblo, Bud Girard, Saddle Rock, and other trails. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the many efforts necessary to restore and keep our trails open to the public and available to future generations.

Who:

Join the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, Santa Barbara County Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, the Montecito Trail Foundation, Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers, and other community-minded volunteers for a fun-filled afternoon maintaining some of the Santa Barbara area’s most popular trails.

What:

Volunteers will be guided by an experienced trail leader to improve portions of Montecito trails. Volunteers should expect to use hand tools for the following types of work: cutting back brush to widen the trail corridor, improving water control features, and minor tread repair. All tools are provided.

Where:

Sign-in at 8:00-8:15 a.m. at Manning Park, Area 2 – 449 San Ysidro Rd, Montecito

Trail Work from 8:30 a.m to 1:00 p.m., McMenemy, Old Pueblo, Bud Girard, Saddle Rock, and other trails.

Lunch from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Manning Park, Area #2. Lunch and drinks are provided to all trail volunteers. Vegetarian option included (please RSVP if vegetarian option needed). Raffle prizes generously provided by sponsor REI will take place during lunch.

Equipment and Clothing:

Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes and long pants to protect from poison oak, plus sunglasses for eye protection. Volunteers should also bring water, sunscreen, hat, and a snack. Bike helmets and gloves are helpful but will also be provided on site (a limited number of bike helmets will be available).
