Business, tourism and economic leaders in the Santa Ynez Valley have laid out a plan to improve the economy in the coming months after a slow down in the winter. The valley was impacted by the back-to-back disasters with the Thomas fire and Montecito mudflow when tourists stayed away in large numbers. They also have felt some impacts due to the popularity of the Funk Zone wine tasting sites in Santa Barbara. Now they have social media messages, a TV commercial and special training for front line workers to help with the economic resurgence they hope for this summer and fall.

Wait a minute. It is nice out here. Moved from SB 25 years ago and never looked back. Traffic is rarely bad. Dinner prices are, well.......
But then again, I hope growth is so slow I don't notice it.

Bucolic Santa Ynez valley! Into every Eden there comes the snake with temptation. Money!!! There is no good for the rest of the county from having more tourists traveling in and out. Especially when the business communities use such increase to raise prices in such extravagant manners. Tasting fees of $15-25 are absurd and simply exploit the naive and trapped to say nothing of the (as noted) dramatic increase in the per bottle prices being sold to tipsy tourists.

We avoid the SYV due to the traffic. From Buellton through to the 154 roundabout, it is just bumper to bumper. It used to be just when school let out but now it is all day. Buellton is a mess with all the new shopping centers and now condos, etc. Very poor planning. Solvang will do ok as they have hoards of Chinese tourists being bussed in and out. And then there's the casino. I say no more.

Wine prices have skyrocketed at the local wineries. We have canceled our memberships after a series of $50/bottle wines came in. The middle class can barely afford the rent, and luxuries are for the rich. TIme to get real.

The restaurants in the SYV, From Solvang -Los Olivos and Santa Ynez need to make some SERIOUS changes in their Menu Pricing- They totally hack the tourists- from Pastries to Pasta and Tri-Tip sandwiches to Dinner plates.
