Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) is pleased to announce the launch of its new pilot Microtransit service, an added convenient and sustainable transportation option for residents. Microtransit offers a flexible, on-demand ride hailing service that allows riders to book their trip over a smartphone app, SMRT Micro.
“Microtransit enables the City to offer added convenient and sustainable transportation option for all in our community, regardless of where they live,” said Gamaliel Anguiano, Transit Services Manager. “This more efficient service will greatly help those with evening/night classes or work shifts that go beyond our fixed route transit service hours.”
Key Benefits of Microtransit:
- Enhanced Accessibility: Smaller electric buses navigate narrow streets and can reach areas inaccessible to larger vehicles.
- On-Demand Convenience: Enjoy the flexibility of ride-hailing services at a fraction of the cost, while providing ADA accessibility.
- Environmental Sustainability: Electric eJest minibuses emit zero emissions, promoting cleaner air and a more sustainable transportation system.
- Tech-Driven Efficiency: The smartphone app offers seamless booking real time alerts, and digital payment.
The initial pilot service will operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Additional days and times we be offered as the demand for the pilot service grows. This new Microtransit service is another demonstration of the City’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship as a Smart City, Safe City.
