On May 16, 2021, Santa Maria Police Detectives began investigating a shooting which resulted in a homicide. The shooting took place in the area of Lincoln and Mill streets after an altercation.
The suspect has since been identified as Alfredo Alaniz Jr., 21 years of age and a resident of Santa Maria. Alaniz is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs around 210 pounds with black hair and green eyes. He has a tattoo of an “S” on his right cheek and a tattoo of a ship on the left side of his head.
Alaniz should be considered armed and dangerous and, if seen, the public is urged not to confront or attempt to apprehend him but to contact law enforcement immediately. It is the mission of the Santa Maria Police Department to do everything we can to keep members of this community safe and hold those accountable who would cause harm to others.
