On December 4, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department officers attempted to contact a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of West Boone Street.
As officers approached the silver BMW, the driver fled, striking a marked SMPD patrol unit and causing minor damage.
Officers identified the driver and confirmed the vehicle’s license plate had been reported stolen. The vehicle was located a short distance away, abandoned and still running.
A perimeter was established in the 700 block of South Depot Street, and a drone was deployed to search the adjacent industrial and open field areas.
Using the drone’s capabilities, officers located the suspect, identified as 28-year-old, Grant Prevatt, who was taken into custody without incident. Prevatt was confirmed to be the driver who fled from officers and was found to have several outstanding felony warrants.
He was booked into the Santa Maria North County Branch Jail on his warrants and additional on-view charges.
