On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers from the Santa Maria Police Department responded to the 1700 block of S. Thornburg on report of an in-progress, residential burglary.
When officers arrived on scene, they contacted the victims and learned the suspect had fled the residence.
Officers checked the area and located a subject in the area of Shiela and Lincoln acting erratically.
Officers contacted and detained the subject, who was later identified as Santa Maria resident, Edilfonso Diaz, 44 yrs.
Through the investigation, Diaz was identified as the suspect and was arrested for violations of 459 PC (Burglary) and 368(b)(1) PC (Elder Abuse). Diaz was also determined to have a $100,000.00 felony warrant for his arrest.
Diaz was booked into the Santa Barbara North County Jail on the aforementioned charges.
