On Saturday, July 4, 2025, GST Detectives recognized a known gang member with an outstanding warrant.
When they approached the suspect identified as Refugio Martinez Jr. (an 18-year-old resident of Santa Maria) he fled on foot from Detectives leading them to a nearby apartment complex in the 800 block of West Battles where he was arrested.
It was later discovered that Martinez discarded a loaded handgun during the foot pursuit.
A female suspect (Angelina Gonzalez a 19-year-old resident of Santa Maria) was also arrested for assisting Martinez in hiding the firearm and for child endangerment. Both were booked into the Santa Barbara North County Jail.
