Santa Maria Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Stabbing

On 09/21/2022 at 0000 hours, SMPD Officers responded to the 700 Blk. of E. Betteravia regarding a subject who was bleeding and in distress. Officers determined the 51-year-old male victim had been violently assaulted and suffered serious lacerations. He later died at the hospital, from his injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, a male subject identified as Quayde George Taren, a 30-year-old male, was determined to have caused the injuries leading to the victim’s death. After being contacted in the immediate vicinity of the crime, Teran was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Santa Barbara Co. Jail for a violation of 187 PC (Homicide) and a parole detainer was also placed.

This remains an ongoing investigation and it is believed there are additional witnesses who may have witnessed the crime occurring. Witnesses are asked to contact Det Woessner of the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau at (805) 928-3781 ext. 1929, with any additional information they may have regarding this case.

At this time, the name of the victim is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.

On 09/21/2022 at 0000 hours, SMPD Officers were dispatched to the 700 Blk. Of E. Betteravia regarding a subject who was bleeding and in distress. Officers arrived and located a 51-year-old male, a resident of Santa Maria, who had been assaulted and had suffered major injuries.  He was transported by AMR Medics to Marian Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.  The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

SMPD Detectives are aggressively pursuing leads in this case but are asking for the public’s assistance.  Anyone who may have been in the area at the time or witnessed the events in this case are asked to contact Detective Woessner in the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau at (805) 928-3781 ext. 1929.
