On May 29, 2026, Santa Maria Police Department officers responded to the 800 block of West McElhaney Avenue after receiving reports of a male firing a handgun in front of a residence.
Officers learned a juvenile male had walked into the front yard, fired a single round, and then returned inside the home. Officers established containment around the residence, and the Santa Maria Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) was activated. Following a surround-and-callout operation, the juvenile exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, officers located a Glock 22 handgun with an obliterated serial number in the juvenile’s bedroom.
Officers also determined the juvenile was likely involved in a similar incident reported on May 28, 2026, in the 900 block of Raaberg Avenue, where witnesses reported a male walking through the neighborhood and firing a single shot. Officers were unable to locate the suspect at that time; however, evidence developed during this investigation linked the juvenile to both incidents.
The juvenile was arrested on multiple firearms-related charges and booked into Juvenile Hall.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781.
