The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 63-yr-old Joseph Wiley of Santa Maria.
It is presumed this was a solo collision without other vehicles involved, although this has yet to be confirmed by the California Highway Patrol.

A motorcyclist died following a collision in Santa Maria on Thursday evening.
At 7:09 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters and a ground ambulance responded to the 6200 block of Dominion Road. Crews found a single motorcyclist off the roadway, unconscious and not breathing.
CPR was performed on the patient but it was determined they died at the scene.
It is unknown whether the motorcyclist died from trauma related to the collision or whether a medical emergency took place prior to the collision. A medical expert will determine the official cause of death.
California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
Or s/he could have been run off the road and left to die. A good friend of mine had that happen to him up at the top of Ortega Ridge Road, in the rain. The motorist caused him to crash and then just left him there. After the crash, my pal lost full extension of his elbow. But . . . he was one of the lucky survivors, right?
Way too many motorcyclists have taken their last ride recently.
