Santa Maria Man Commits Suicide at UCSB

A 28-year old Santa Maria man died Thursday night of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on UC Santa Barbara’s campus.

According to the Daily Nexus, UC Police Department responded to reports of a gunshot in Parking Lot 22 at approximately 10:30 p.m. The parking lot is off Ocean Road, adjacent to the Pardall Tunnel that leads to Isla Vista. 

Police arrived on scene and found the victim, later identified as Oscar Novoa Arredondo, unresponsive and with a firearm inside his white sedan. He was given CPR and rushed to Cottage Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Novoa was not affiliated with the University. UCPD and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating. No foul play is suspected.
