The Sisquoc area brush fire, named the Maria Incident, is now estimated to be approximately 6 acres.
As of 5:35 p.m. Monday, forward progress of the fire has been stopped and it’s 40% contained, reports Captain Zaniboni. Full containment is expected by 10:00 p.m.
Zaniboni reports the full containment issue has to due with very steep terrain causing issues for crews to access.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigator is on the scene.

At 3:02 p.m. Monday afternoon, Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire on the 4700 block of Santa Maria Mesa Road, just outside of Sisquoc.
Crews found a fire burning on a hillside that was very inaccessible by ground units with most of the help from dozers and helicopters. Tankers are currently making air drops and one helicopter is making water drops, reports Captain Dave Zaniboni.
The fire is now estimated to be approximately 7 acres with no nearby structures threatened. It is expected to be held to 10 acres or less, with very little potential for it to grow.
