A Santa Barbara woman was captured on video harassing the owner of a Ventura business for flying the flag of Mexico.
La Catrina Folk Art, located at 2338 E. Main Street in Ventura, sells a variety of Mexican inspired, and hand painted, one of a kind arts and crafts.
On Saturday, August 23, the store hosted a “Cafecito” event with Boxha Coffee, a mobile coffee cart, serving Mexican Coffee and selling items outside the storefront.
The daughter of the store’s owner was flying a Mexican flag in front of the business advertising their event when a white woman approached her and asked why she was flying that flag, according to a social media post from the business.
The daughter used her phone to record the incident where a woman can be seen asking, “Why the f*** are you flying a Mexican flag in America?”
“You really went out of your way to come say this right now?” the daughter asked.
“Yes, I did… because you have no good reason to fly a Mexican flag in f***ing California which is America,” the woman stated.
The woman continued to argue using expletives when the daughter stated did not want to continue the conversation and asked her to leave.
“F*** you, go back to Mexico,” the woman said while flipping off the store’s employees and driving away in a white VW Jetta.

The video was posted to social media where it’s gained over 300,000 views. It was picked up and shared by a social media activist Michael McWhorter, who goes by @tizzyent, who frequently shares videos of people exhibiting harassing or threatening behavior to others and asks the online community to help identify the perpetrators.
Commenters, including local residents, were able to quickly identify the woman harassing a Ventura business owner as Lisa Kay Vanderlaan Burke from Santa Barbara.
The Ventura business took to social media again to call out Burke, “I hope you learned your lesson to mind your own business from now on. Every action has a consequence, mija.”
According to social media posts from Burke that have since been taken down, she is a horse trainer and riding instructor who posted about supporting President Donald Trump and his immigration policies and in 2016 took a cruise to Mexico.
“I hope your Mexican cruise was fun! The irony,” the business stated.

This incident took place on the same day a man in Goleta was caught on video harassing an employee of Lucky Laundry and threatening to call Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) on people speaking Spanish.
