Our students, teachers, staff, and administrators have come together to achieve remarkable results. Test scores are soaring back to levels not seen since before the pandemic, showcasing the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.
According to the official California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), English Language Arts scores indicate that 51.7% of students are meeting or exceeding the standard, and in Math, 41.4% of the students are meeting or exceeding the standard.
“The recent test score growth across our district is a powerful testament to the tireless efforts of our teachers and staff. This achievement is a direct result of their commitment to our Call to Action: to create joyful, engaging, and inclusive learning environments that foster a love of learning for all,” said Dr. Hilda Maldonado, Superintendent. “It proves that by focusing on evidence-based practices and aligning as leaders, teachers, and staff, we can accelerate equitable results in academic progress for every single student. Our teachers are the heart of this success, and I couldn’t be prouder of their dedication.”
Santa Barbara Unified has the highest test scores of any TK-12 school district in the County. The District outperforms Santa Barbara County and the State of California in test scores.
“I am so proud of our students, teachers, and staff for their hard work to get us to this point. Every percentage point represents real progress for real students. These results are exciting, but we know there’s still work to do. I am confident we will continue to improve our test scores this year and beyond,” said Board President Gabe Escobedo.

49% of student cant read at grade level and 59% are not proficient in math.
Joyful, excited, proud, remarkable. These are the words to describe this result.
Shameful is the one i would use.
I get it, they are making progress, but when 48.3% of the students are not at standards for English and 58.6% are not at standards for Math you should be ashamed, not patting yourself on the back. Then bragging you are ahead of the county and the state of CA schools is pathetic. The students deserve better and we are failing them.
I agree with the two comments: how can one be so happy with these scores! Perhaps if the SB Unified _finally_ adopts, implements phonics reading the scores will improve. The situation for public school students has been shameful. Escobedo was elected to the school board years ago to work to improve reading……
