Santa Barbara to Update Community Wildfire Protection Plan

By edhat staff

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department has been awarded a $310,000 Cal Fire grant to update the existing Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and programmatic Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

The previous Wildland Fire Plan was completed in 2004 with the goal of mitigating wildland fire impacts. Recent California fires that have devastated urban communities have heightened our community’s perception of our vulnerability to wildfire.

The City’s CWPP recently launched its new website aimed at informing residents of community workshops, updated information, and more.

The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, February 13.

The completed EIR and CWPP are expected to be finalized early next year. More information can be found here: https://cwpp.santabarbaraca.gov/
