Presiding Judge Gustavo E. Lavayen announces the selection of Carol Lee Hubner as the court’s newest Superior Court Commissioner. Ms. Hubner will be sworn in on a date to be determined.

In 1998 Ms. Hubner graduated summa cum laude with a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish in 1990, as well as a Master’s Degree in Spanish in 1991, both from Stanford University. Additionally, Ms. Hubner is fluent in both Spanish and French.

Judge Lavayen noted that Ms. Hubner has a remarkable record of providing representation for children in juvenile dependency proceedings in northern Santa Barbara County. She previously served as Deputy County Counsel III, where she represented the Department of Social Services in the area of Child Welfare Services. She was selected after a rigorous application and interview process that included a field of highly competitive applicants. Judge Lavayen welcomes Ms. Hubner to the bench indicating “she has the experience, demeanor and intellect to excel as a Santa Barbara Superior Court judicial officer and will provide outstanding service to our community.”

Superior Court Commissioners hear matters including, but not limited to, family law, child support, domestic violence and civil harassment. Commissioners must be active members in good standing with the State Bar of California and be admitted to practice law in California for at least ten years.
