On Tuesday, community leaders, advocates, and residents gathered outside the Santa Barbara Courthouse to demand an end to the federal immigration raids and threats to community safety.
The event, led by The FUND for Santa Barbara and the 805 Immigrant Coalition, shed light on the escalating impact of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations throughout Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties.
Organized under the banner “ICE Out of 805,” the event united nearly a dozen partner organizations and vocational advocacy groups. Speakers highlighted the fear and uncertainty gripping immigrant communities in the region as a result of targeted raids and confirmed ICE activities.
“Family separation is no longer something we can think of as happening only at the border,” said Eder Gaona-Macedo, Executive Director of The FUND for Santa Barbara. “It is happening right here in our neighborhoods, in the 805. Our immigrant community is living in fear—parents afraid to drop their children off at school, workers afraid to get to their jobs, and whole communities silenced through fear and surveillance.”
The extent of the crisis was underscored by Primitiva Hernandez, Executive Director of 805 UndocuFund, who revealed that 81 individuals have either been detained or deported across four confirmed ICE operations in the region.
“Immigrant-serving organizations and attorneys are at full capacity, providing services to families navigating detention, deportation, and separation. This is a dire and escalating crisis in our region, and our communities cannot face it alone,” Hernandez explained.
Attendees were urged to mobilize and collaborate in support of impacted families. The event concluded with a plea for nonprofits, labor unions, faith groups, and justice-minded individuals to join forces and work toward meaningful change for collective liberation.

Partner organizations such as Indivisible Santa Barbara, the League of Women Voters, the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, Future Leaders of America, MICOP, the California Immigrant Policy Center, Voces Sin Fronteras, and the Immigrant Legal Defense Center have pledged ongoing support in the fight to protect immigrant rights in the region.
As the immigration crisis deepens, rallies like “ICE Out of 805” reflect growing resistance and community resilience. However, organizers stressed that sustained support and active engagement are critical to ensuring safety and equity for immigrant families across the Central Coast.
Local agencies have confirmed that targeted ICE operations are occurring now through June 15 in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties. Anyone witnessing activity or detentions is encouraged to report it to the Rapid Response Hotline at (805) 870-8855.

Im not interested in anecdotes or opinion pieces. According to ICE they deported 271,484 foreigners last year. It wouldn’t have been difficult to find a sob story or two among the 22,000+ monthly instances of deportations to boost clicks for advertising bucks on news sites but I never noticed this level of hysteria. Just my personal observation.

I did and do read the news. I actually read both sides to get a more complete view of the truth. Your so very right Obama did nothing. He just talked the talk. Go back and watch his speeches. Its like Trump wrote them.
