Santa Barbara Police Release Details in Suspicious Death Investigation

On July 9, 2021, Officers and Detectives of the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a suspicious death investigation at a residence on Arbolado Road in the City of Santa Barbara. Two decedents were located inside a home and both had self-inflected gunshot wounds.
 
Upon further investigation, both these deaths were deemed a double suicide and no foul play is suspected.  Bernd Storch, 82-years-old and wife, Miyako Storch 87-years-old were identified as the decedents.

On July 9, 2021, at approximately 5:57pm, the Combined Communications Center received a call of a possible double suicide at a residence on Arbolado Road. Santa Barbara Police officers responded to the call while emergency medical personnel staged nearby. The officers discovered an elderly couple deceased inside the residence. Santa Barbara Police detectives are currently investigating this as a suspicious death investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, there is no current threat to community safety in connection to this incident. At this time, no additional information will be released as this investigation is on-going. The identities of the decedents are not being released pending coroner notifications

Santa Barbara Police Release Details in Suspicious Death Investigation

Perhaps medical, especially mental deterioration had reached a point where the decisions were die quickly or slowly and possibly painfully, and they decided to choose while they could. We are often kinder to our beloved animals when it comes to dying.
