Police K9 "Jake" retired recently after almost six years of service. During a ceremony he received a mayoral proclamation.

Jake and his human partner and handler, Sgt. Chris Payne were responsible for 237 narcotics sniffs, 169 building searches, 71 apprehensions, and 52 area searches.

These animals do jobs human police can't do, sniffing out drugs, and finding criminals due to their intense "smelling" abilities. Donations keep these canines working. Although the dogs cost could definitely be justified if law enforcement paid for them, they are "furry cops".

The K-9 program is funded by private donations. Benefactors make donations to the S.B. Police Foundation and those are administered to the Police Dept for the K-9 program. At least that's what is said in the attached video about Jake.

Good on you, Jake. I am sure that all the people you have helped wish you the best. Am not sure what a Mayoral citation is, but you might want to stay away from it.
