Santa Barbara Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Highland

A Santa Barbara man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly firing a gun through the front door of a San Bernardino County home.
Gabriel Arce, 34, faces attempted murder charges in what investigators are calling an "unprovoked attack."
The shooting took place on February 28 at an apartment in the 7000 block of Central Avenue in Highland, a town east of San Bernardino. Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of an elderly person being shot in their home.
When officers arrived, they found the victim, suffering from a gunshot wound, with a tourniquet around their leg.
Ring doorbell footage from another nearby apartment showed the moments leading up to the attack. A suspect wearing a black hoodie and black face covering, was seen walking up the apartment stairs before pulling out a small gun. The suspect noticeably struggled with the gun for more than 20 seconds before firing four rounds through the apartment's front door.
Using that video, deputies were able to identify the alleged suspect as Gabriel Arce, a resident of Santa Barbara.
On Tuesday, investigators from the Highland Sheriff’s Station, with the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Gang/Narcotic Division and California Department of Correction Officers, located and arrested Arce in Santa Barbara. A search warrant was served at Arce’s residence and evidence of the crime was located, including the suspected firearm used during the attempted murder.
Arce was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is currently being held without bail. Arce is an active CDC Parole for violation of PC4502 (B), Prisoner Manufacturing a Weapon. He was originally sent to prison for PC211 Robbery.

Was this house targeted ? Another robbery attmept? And is this person from Santa Barbara or from San Bernardino but was living here?
People like this should be locked up for life.

Mar 16, 2023 05:26 PMNo, life in prison for parole violations, making a weapon in prison, firearm violations - both felon in possession and potentially illegal firearm if serial number is gone), using a firearm while committing a felony, AND attempted murder. Eventually, if you make the consequences of committing a crime with a firearm significant enough, AND actually enforce those laws, crimes involving firearms will go down.

His initial charge was robbery, then he made a weapon in prison (could be a sharpened toothbrush for all we know), THEN after he served time and was let out on parole, he did this (which might have been a bad B&E attempt for all we know). My point was/is, you can't lock people up for life for a robbery charge (even with a shiv charge) for their entire life just so they don't get out and do something like this. You people flail and wail whenever a con commits another crime, why oh why wasn't he locked up for the rest of his life? oh deary!
Sometimes, people don't learn from prison. At this point, this guy needs to go away for a long time. BUT..... you can't just lock up every first time non-capital offender for life just because they might commit more crimes when they get out. Many people learn and try to better themselves after a stint in prison. You'd condemn all them back to prison for life? Where are we going to put all these prisoners? Who's going to pay for lifetimes of prison care? What will we do with the 8th amendment?
