On Wednesday, May 8th, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department will be hosting fire departments from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties at the annual Interagency Wildland Urban Interface drill. This year’s drill will take place in the area of the Holiday Fire, which burned in the North Fairview (Holiday Hill) area of Goleta on July 6th, 2018.
The purpose of the drill is to train firefighters on structure defense tactics, including home preparation, hose deployment skills, helicopter operations and life safety measures. We educate, train and take value in the lessons learned from previous events with the hope that lessons learned can improve fire safety during future emergencies. Approximately 100 firefighters along with equipment including engines and air resources will be in the areas of North Fairview Ave. and Hwy 154/Cathedral Oaks Rd. from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on May 8th. Firefighters will be delivering informational flyers to homeowners in the area of North Fairview Ave., prior to the drill.
