Santa Barbara District Attorney Files Murder Charges Against Golden State Killer

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley charged the alleged “Golden State Killer” with first-degree murder on Thursday.

During the short press conference outside the DA’s office, Dudley announced four counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances against Joseph James DeAngelo, the man believed to have committed 12 homicides, over 50 rapes, and countless home invasions throughout California in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Also known as the East Area Rapist and Original Night Stalker, DeAngelo is also charged with murder in Ventura, Orange, and Sacramento counties. 

DeAngelo is charged with the murders of Dr. Robert Offerman, 44, and Dr. Debra Alexandra Manning, 35, who were found shot dead at Offerman’s condominium on Avenida Pequena in Goleta on December 30, 1979. He’s also charged with the murders of Cheri Domingo, 35, and Gregory Sanchez, 27, in Domingo’s house on Toltec Way on July 27, 1981. The charges also special circumstances of murder during the commission of rape and burglary, as well as the use of a firearm.
