It is with sadness that Santa Barbara County officials learned of the sudden passing of long-time County Treasurer-Tax Collector Gary L. Feramisco on April 26, 2019.

Gary L. Feramisco
June 16, 1941 – April 26, 2019

Mr. Feramisco’s career with the County began in 1982 when he was hired as the assistant treasurer. He was first elected as the tax collector and public administrator of Santa Barbara County in 1985, upon which he was re-elected to serve a total of 18 years. For part of his tenure with the County of Santa Barbara, Mr. Feramisco also served as the administrator of the Santa Barbara County Employees’ Retirement System (SBCERS) and oversaw investment management for SBCERS.

Harry Hagen, who serves as the current County Treasurer-Tax Collector said, “Gary Feramisco was one of the most ethical, intelligent and hard-working public servants I have ever had the honor of working with, but my fondest memories of Gary will always be how kind, generous and funny he was. We lost an exceptional man with his passing.”

Mr. Feramisco was a life member of the County Treasurer-Tax Collectors Association; served as an officer and board member of SBCERS; and had affiliations with the Public Administrator and Conservators Association and Veteran Service Officers. He served as a volunteer, member and on the board of directors for various nonprofit and other associations. In addition, he proudly served as a United States Coast Guard Reserve for 28 years, and was a retired Master Chief Yeoman, personnel administration.

According to Mr. Feramisco’s family, “Gary’s huge smile, hearty laugh, warm heart, profound wisdom and generous spirit will be dearly missed by family and friends.”

The Board of Supervisors and County staff send thoughts and deepest sympathies to the Feramisco family at this time. Services have already been held.
