Santa Barbara County Move to Yellow Tier

Santa Barbara County has met the State’s Yellow Tier case rate and positivity rate allowing movement into the less restrictive Yellow Tier, effective Wednesday, June 09, 2021 at 8 a.m. A new Health Officer Order will be issued which includes guidance on business operations in the Yellow Tier. The new Health Officer Order will further ease restrictions and allow more indoor activities, in accordance with the rules and framework of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
To qualify for the Yellow Tier, a region must have an adjusted case rate less than 2 cases per every 100,000 residents, a testing positivity rate of less than 2%, and less than 2.2% positive tests for the health equity quartile. Santa Barbara County’s adjusted case rate is 0.9 cases per every 100,000 residents, the positivity rate stands at 0.7%, and the positive tests for the health equity quartile stand at 1.0%.
“The vaccines are working and the State will be lifting most restrictions beginning June 15. In particular masking except for in many workplaces, will become optional states Dr. Henning Ansorg, Health Officer for Santa Barbara County. “We all play an important part in defeating this virus and the community as a whole is safer the more persons are fully vaccinated. The vaccines have been shown to be very safe and effective even against newer variants of the virus. If you haven’t done so already, please get vaccinated today.”
Here are some of the changes allowed under the Yellow Tier as listed in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy Activities Chart:
· Restaurants: Indoor seating increases to 50% capacity or 200 people maximum (whichever is less).
· Gyms and Fitness Centers: 50% capacity indoors; saunas and steam rooms can open.
· Wineries and Breweries: 50% capacity or 200 people indoors maximum (whichever is less).
· Movie Theaters: 50% capacity.
· Museums, Zoos and Aquariums: Open indoors with modifications.
· Places of Worship: 50% capacity indoors with modifications.
· Bars with no food service: Open indoors with modifications, 25% capacity or 100 people maximum (whichever is less).
· All retail: No capacity limits.

"In his California forecast essay, UCLA Anderson Forecast director Jerry Nickelsburg writes that states such as California that have had stricter non-pharmaceutical interventions during the pandemic — for example, mask mandates and business closures — had better health and economic outcomes, relative to states with less stringent measures, with very few exceptions."

Tons of info, safe to say everyone is aware of the risks per the “science & data”.
Those at risk or who are concerned are vaxed.
If at this point one chooses to not vaccinate or has natural immunity (which the news & public health do not discuss) then that is their choice.
A non vax is not going to infect a vax.
And if the non vax chooses that then why are we all still required to wear masks?

Jun 10, 2021 03:16 PMI don't think, I know politicians and bureaucrats exerted controls beyond the powers granted to them by the people to help consolidate their power. There is not need for CA's state of emergency to continue, especially beyond the 15th but it will. Newsom literally said "yes, absolutely we see this [the pandemic]as an opportunity to reshape the way we do business and how we govern.” Wakeup Sac, they do not care about you but their long t-term agenda to stay in power. 2ndly, your basically giving them all an excuse to do what they did just because they were trying, well sometimes not doing anything (or simply providing guidance) is better than doing the wrong thing. For the CA to take the path it did, and incur the destruction the decisions caused, they better be damn sure it was going to work. But it didn't, and we all paid the price for no benefit. Worse, the faith many had in CDC, WHO, NIH, etc. and public health departments across the country are now gone. If the next pandemic comes with a truly dangerous virus (because there will be a next time) they've used up their tricks and will never again gain the mass compliance they had at the beginning of this pandemic.

They cheered for schools to stay closed in the FALL and were upset they opened in the Spring. They touted fatality rates that were never considered anywhere near reality other than the first report out of Italy in March of 2020.

So what? The PURPOSE was to slow the spread. Do you truly think the leaders and medical experts simply want to exert control over the populace for the sake of "power?" That's what I'm talking about. I really don't care if they institute some rules that might be overkill simply to try to do what they can to slow the spread of a (then) novel virus that was spreading across the globe like wildfire. Dr. Ghaly (head of the California Health & Human Services Agency) admitted the ban on outdoor dinning wasn't about the safety outdoor dining but "really has to do with the goal of trying to keep people at home" (actual quote). Those are just two examples, if you actually had an open mind and pushed aside your predetermined POV you'd see many many more.

The total number of possibly still infectious after being test positive this past week is 10 people. This out of 250,000 people living in 150 sq miles. That could mean that the chances of you bumping in to someone who could get you sick if you were one of the few unvaccinated people around here is.........pretty close to zero. If you're vaccinated, exactly zero. So you are wearing a mask because why?

Immunocompromised people comprise up to 4% of people in the US, and the vaccine won't help them. That is part of the reason that the vaccines are only around 95% effective. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/871290. So 5% of us can get sick after being vaccinated, especially if you visit Alabama or Mississippi with low numbers of vaccinated people.

Maybe if you compared the numbers that will get really sick from covid after vaxxing and all pedestrian injuries but I don't want to write your posts for you....

That "exactly zero" figure is pretty amazing, be better if it were actually true and not just some more made up "facts."
I'm fully vaxxed, but when go in a business that requires a mask, I don't cry and moan, I just do it. There's a chance I could still get sick, so no need to take that chance. It's a pretty small inconvenience so most adults don't mind.

Jun 09, 2021 01:35 PMThe masks are never going to go away, at least not around here. People in california, and in Santa Barbara particularly, are extremely up-tight. The concept of people walking around going wherever they want without a care in the world makes people feel uncomfortable. Masks add an element of discipline and structure that people appreciate and will not let go of. You can’t just walk into a store to check it out, first you must stop and follow the masking rituals. People like it this way.

We have less old people and so less total deaths... that being said every age group (0-18, 19-29, 29-39, 49-59, 60-75, 75-85 and 85+) died at a higher rate here in California.
you are (in a sense) arguing that residents of del playa road did better than residents of el colegio road... I’m merely pointing out that friendship manor is on el colegio and everyone on del play is 18-22...
Demographics matter in a pandemic that is wildly discriminatory against those over 65... so yeah, go us... we have quite a lower percentage of the people that die of Covid so we had less per 100k (despite every age group faring worse comparatively).
