The City of Santa Barbara has announced three approved recreational marijuana locations within the city limits.

A team of city staff reviewed marijuana dispensary applications, held a public interview of the applicants, and received public comment. Using criteria established by the City Council, staff scored each applicant.

The following dispensaries have been approved at the below locations and can now begin the process of obtaining building and regulatory permits to make tenant improvements:

1. Coastal Dispensary, LLC at 1019 Chapala Street

2. Farmacy SB at 128 W. Mission Street

3. GSG SBCA Inc, dba Golden State Greens at 3516 State Street

The below document details the scoring process and ongoing regulation.

The difference b/t medical and recreational is that if you have a medical prescription for it you can get higher concentrations of THC in the product, with recreational they limit the TCH concentration they are allowed to sell.

TADGES, You are so right, sounds like someone has been watching Reefer Madness, a totally bogus take on what happens when Marijuana is used, really quite a funny "documentary". Hearst and his yellow journalism made up those "effects" of marijuana use. The reason? Hearst and his cronies owned forests, wood used to make paper. Since hemp can also be used to make paper they didn't want the competition. So, why not scare the heck out of people.

From USAToday 2017: "We heard many of these same promises in 2012 when Colorado legalized recreational marijuana. In the years since, Colorado has seen an increase in marijuana related traffic deaths, poison control calls, and emergency room visits. The marijuana black market has increased in Colorado, not decreased. And, numerous Colorado marijuana regulators have been indicted for corruption."

Numerous. Increases. Black markets........ Vague language so that you can support your cherry-picked info. Try giving the actual numbers for a change. For myself, I'm more interested in understanding why a large numbers of our citizens want to drink and drug itself, creating huge markets for this stuff. Until they address that, legal or illegal doesn't matter.

Recreational means anyone over 21 with legal ID. Medical requires a Medical Marijuana License. This license can cost up to $100. In the end, they will be similar, with Recreational being for the masses over 21 not just the sick anymore. Fyi...Crystalandmaui it's not like like Marijuana is a new drug. Highly unlikely to cause new issues. Lines may be longer at Derf's though since a storefront will be next door. Lol

How silly is that?? making the difference between Recreational Pot and Medical Pot... two different dispensaries Does that mean there is Recreational Beer and Medical Beer? GMA*B Our law makers need to get a brain cell and an eyeball.

In the 1960s a "lid" was simply a handful, pretty big one, $5.00. This has been a LONG time coming. I saw a documentary, "POT", on PBS. It was originally made illegal after alcohol probation to get rid of Mexicans in the Southwest. Also, to keep the "prohibition agents" employed.

SBWALKERS: Yeah, I know how old you are -- my age! But back then about all you could get for $5 was "Garberville Green," just dried stems and leaves and no bud. The only buzz you got was from hyperventilating, but it was still "weed," man. The "good ole days"!

Hymmm well I guess will see the outcome of this.... I’m scared, what will happen, more car accidents, more hit and runs, bikers getting hit, robberies, kids standing on corners asking for an adult to buy them some weed. Yikes. Wow, just what America needed to support the drug use and drug dealers. More criminal activity. I’m not supporting this at all.

While the State Of California Prop. 64 law permits the growing of six plants outdoors on residential property, the County of Santa Barbara requires all plants to be grown indoors: http://longrange.sbcountyplanning.org/programs/cannabis/Final%20Ords/BOS%20Final%20LUDC%20Amendments.pdf
