Today, Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) announces that Contour Airlines will begin service from the “depart differently” airport starting on October 16, 2018. The regional carrier will offer daily nonstop flights to Oakland (OAK) and service to Las Vegas (LAS) in its 30-passenger ERJ-135 jet aircraft.

Contour will offer the unique combination of low fares and a premium passenger experience. Introductory pricing starts at $79 each way to Oakland and $59 each way to Las Vegas. The onboard product includes comfortable leather seating with expanded legroom in every row and complimentary beverage and snack service for all passengers. “Among local travelers, Las Vegas ranks high as a desirable direct flight destination as does Oakland, which is an excellent addition to SBA’s current service to the Bay Area. We are thrilled to have Contour Airlines join us at SBA,” said Airport Director Hazel Johns.  Oakland Airport is celebrating the new service as well.  “Contour Airlines has been a great addition the service in Oakland, and we’re thrilled that we finally have a direct connection to Santa Barbara,” said Bryant Francis, Airport Director for Oakland International Airport.

The routes introduce two new markets, Santa Barbara and Las Vegas, into Contour’s growing West Coast network.  Within the past six months, Contour has also initiated service in Oakland, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Page, AZ, and Crescent City, CA.  “We see an incredible opportunity in Santa Barbara to provide point-to-point service to these high-demand, short haul markets,” according to Matt Chaifetz, Chief Executive Officer of Contour.  “Santa Barbara residents can now avoid a long and unpredictable drive to the Los Angeles-area gateways and fly from their convenient hometown airport.”

Tickets are available for purchase on Contour’s website at contourairlines.com, by calling the Contour call center at (888) 332-6686, and through local and online travel agencies.

Contour will operate the service to Oakland and Las Vegas from the Santa Barbara Airport passenger terminal.

Contour Airlines’ service brings the number of SBA’s direct flight destinations to nine, including Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Oakland, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Seattle. The number of commercial carriers serving SBA has grown to six: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Contour Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and United Airlines.

SBA continues to enjoy strong growth in passenger loads with a 15% increase in July 2018 over the same month in 2017.

Wow great news thank you !!! Be sure to read all the fine print on these cut-rate airlines. A friend bought a ticket for Frontier, arrived at SBA 30 min in advance of the flight (enough time for our small airport), the app wasn't working so she tried to get her boarding pass downstairs. They said they could not/would not print it out, as they require all passengers to have boarding passes in hand and to be at the gate 45 min in advance.

The Contour flight from SBA to OAK for $79 one way is a game changer. Comparable flights on United SBA to SFO are $291-331 one way. Contour, and OAK, are not for everyone but this will even eat into the high end on the Surf Air flights. And daily flights to and from Vegas? Get outta town. Competition is sweet!

Tickets are for sale for flights mid-October through the end of February 2019 at these rates. Contour is known for these low-low prices. If it is any barometer, they've flow for some time from Nashville to Tupelo, MS. One way tickets for that route are still $29 for available seats (they look sold out through December). That is not a typo.
