On Friday, June 7, Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) celebrated the return of Delta Air Lines and the launch of two new nonstop routes: Salt Lake City (SLC) and Atlanta (ATL).

SBA welcomed passengers both arriving from and departing to these two new destinations. Travelers were treated to free swag from SBA, special giveaways from Delta, and custom cookies commemorating the event. The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce set up an informational booth for those visiting, and Visit Santa Barbara hosted Mony’s Mexican Food to serve tacos. A short program included remarks from Airport Director Chris Hastert, Edyth Adedeji of Delta Air Lines, and Mayor Randy Rowse.

Delta previously served SBA with daily routes to Salt Lake City from August 2019 to July 2020. Since the unforeseen end of service during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Santa Barbara community has requested the return of SLC service above all other routes. Additionally, the new Atlanta route will mark the longest direct commercial flight offered in SBA’s history. With these two new connections, travelers can reach more than 35 additional domestic destinations and 30 international destinations with just one stop.

SBA is one of just a few airports on the West Coast where Delta is utilizing the new A220-300. These planes have a capacity of 130 passengers with 12 First Class seats, 30 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 88 Main Cabin seats. Some of the notable design features include wider seats, larger windows, a unique 2-3 seating layout, less carbon emissions, less noise, and monitors and power ports at every seat. Delta is offering twice daily service to SLC and once daily service to ATL.
