Taylor Brownett, 10, of Santa Barbara, won his division at the National Amateur Skateboarding Championships at Kona Skate Park in Jacksonville, Florida, in January, marking his second national title in three years.
Brownett is currently ranked No. 40 in the world, according to The Boardr’s two-year men’s global ranking. He began skateboarding at age 5 and entered his first competition at 7.

He competes in the Southern California Amateur Skate League (CASL), which the league says draws athletes from countries including Brazil, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan. CASL notes that many top professionals — including Tony Hawk — launched their competitive careers in the league.

CASL hosts monthly contests across Southern California, stages state championships each November and participates in the national championships each January.
