Santa Ana Winds?
By an edhat reader
Did anyone else feel the hot winds last night? We were in Goleta off old San Marcos Pass near Cathedral Oaks.

Sep 07, 2020 05:56 PMI realize this was in the title, but not the post... we don't get Santa Ana's here. We get something unique referred to as 'Sundowners'. Our topography generally precludes us from the Santa Ana winds. Watch the animation of this, you'll see the Santa Ana's develop south of us, go out over the water. Starts around 6pm tomorrow. Last I saw it wrapped around and ended up in Paso Robles, but it seems that model shifted it to stay out over the water. Keep in mind, the flag is close to 2800', so won't reflect SB/Goleta climes. https://www.windy.com/?namConus,950h,2020-09-10-06,34.895,-119.268,8,m:eCFacPu

Sep 07, 2020 05:27 PMIm curious how did you differentiate the temp of the wind from the 90degree air around it? It was hot, wind would be also hot. I did not feel any sundowners last night in santa barbara

Sep 08, 2020 11:47 AMIt felt like someone opened the oven door - it was very markedly different from the temperature. On my way home - on Patterson btw Cathedral Oaks and the 101, I put my hand out the window and felt the air change from thick heat to cool air. Never experienced any winds that hot in the nearly 40 years I've lived in CA.
